About the department
We are looking for a "Head of" for the "Fighter Radar Test Means Design" department which is part of the "Fighter Radar Engineering" at our Ulm location as soon as possible.
The main department "Fighter Radar Engineering" consists of six department:
- Airborne Radar System Definition & Support
- Fighter Radar Physical System Design
- Fighter Radar Functional System Design
- Fighter Radar System Integration & Test
- Fighter Radar Design Authority & Management
- Fighter Radar Test Means Design
The "Fighter Radar Test Means Design" department is responsible for the topics development and in-service support of the Fighter Radar Test Equipments (Enabling Systems) for all Fighter Radar products (Eurofighter Captor-M, Captor-E, ECRS Mk1), which are developed by HENSOLDT.
Your Tasks
- Team Leadership & Development: You lead and inspire the cross-functional team of approx. 20 employees within the "Fighter Radar Test Means Design" department in Ulm (both disciplinary and functionally) and continuously foster the individual skills and career development of your team members.
- Project Management & Coordination: You plan and steer the development of test equipment (test means) in alignment with contractual agreements and regulations, working in close alignment with intersecting departments.
- Tendering Support: You are responsible for conceptualizing new test means development projects, including precise effort estimations to support technical proposals.
- Make-or-Buy & Partner Management: You strategically evaluate development efforts based on cost-efficiency, quality standards, and deadlines. In addition, you manage and monitor subcontractors to ensure high performance.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: You network closely with other engineering teams within Fighter Radar Engineering and actively drive continuous improvements in collaboration.
- Agility & Process Optimization: You foster agile workflows within the department and across interfaces to enhance the performance of the entire value chain. You analyze existing development processes to derive and implement optimization measures, while defining and monitoring key metrics.
- Quality & Risk Management: You monitor development projects through structured design reviews to ensure high-quality outcomes, while proactively identifying and mitigating technical risks.
- Resource & Budget Ownership: You oversee budget, resource, and investment planning, ensuring a future-oriented and qualitative workforce allocation.
- Governance & Compliance: You guarantee the reliable adherence to all organizational and regulatory duties within your area of responsibility.
- Representation & Reporting: You competently represent your department to both internal and external stakeholders and take ownership of regular reporting.
Your Profile
- Solid Educational Background: A degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, Physics, Aerospace Engineering, or a comparable field of study.
- Leadership Experience: Several years of experience in functional or disciplinary leadership of interdisciplinary teams, combined with the ability to integrate, motivate, and guide highly qualified employees toward common goals.
- Engineering Expertise: Extensive practical experience in systems engineering, as well as in the technical leadership and development of complex products across multiple disciplines and system layers.
- Testing & Integration: Sound experience in system integration and testing.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication skills, leadership presence, and a proven track record in constructive conflict resolution.
- Language Proficiency: Fluent in both German and English (written and spoken) for confident communication in an international environment.
- Industry Know-how (optional): Prior knowledge of Fighter Radar and Eurofighter (EF) systems.
- Methodological Expertise (optional): Experience in project management and relevant certifications in the field of system testing.
