About the role
The Technical Product Manager (TPM) is responsible for the technical integrity, competitive performance, and lifecycle management of a complete product line within the GEW Technologies Product Portfolio – Electronic Attack. In alignment with the strategic direction set by the Product Portfolio function, the TPM defines and maintains the product development roadmap, ensuring its execution through the Product Owners under their leadership. The role demands strong technical leadership, roadmap planning, product development oversight, and market-driven innovation, ensuring products meet and exceed end-user requirements while remaining cost-effective and competitive.
Qualification & Experience
- Minimum: BEng Engineering degree
- Preferred: Masters in Engineering degree
- Experience: More than 10 years applicable product development experience.
- Proven track record in technical leadership, product lifecycle management, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Experience working with management, executives, and external stakeholders in a product group environment.
Key Technical Skills
- Product roadmap creation, planning, and competitive analysis.
- Deep knowledge of product development processes (R&D) from concept to industrialisation.
- Product detail design and calculations in specialised domains (e.g., Direction Finding, Jamming, Wideband Receivers).
- Implementation knowledge across analog, digital, mechanical, and environmental design disciplines.
- Product environmental qualification according to Military Standards.
- System Engineering application in development and maintenance.
- Technical team leadership and coordination of engineering teams.
- Project management and Research and Development (R&D) budget planning/management.
- Requirements management and use of bug/feature tracking tools.
Key Responsibilities
1. Product Roadmap
- Align roadmap with strategic product portfolio direction.
- Own assigned product lines (Sensors, Effectors, Post Processing).
- Determine detailed product requirements through market research, technology trend analysis, and competitor benchmarking.
- Develop product use cases and operational concepts.
- Provide requirements inputs to Product Owners and Design Authorities.
- Draft product roadmaps collaboratively with stakeholders for approval and funding.
2. Product Technical Management
- Define and maintain product requirements in collaboration with Product Owners.
- Synchronise requirements across product lines and within the organisation.
- Review and approve product brochures, technical descriptions, and specifications.
- Ensure verification and validation of products through lab and field testing.
- Support customer installations, trials, and demonstrations.
- Act as technical authority for integration, qualification, and product acceptance.
3. Product Development Execution
- Lead research, design, and development according to the GEW Product Development process.
- Drive functional design, product integration, and qualification against specifications.
- Ensure full industrialisation of products with complete production documentation.
- Oversee environmental qualification in compliance with military standards.
4. Technical Support to Product Portfolio & Bids
- Provide technical marketing support, proposal inputs, and compliance assessments.
- Support marketing activities with technical presentations and demonstrations to clients.
5. Technical After-Sales Support
- Work with Product Owners to identify product deficiencies and recommend solutions.
- Oversee retrofit and modification actions as required.
- Provide technical reporting to customers.
6. Financial Management
- Provide accurate cost, effort, and time estimates for R&D planning.
- Lead product cost optimisation efforts and verify cost structures.
7. Internal Client Management
- Ensure timely technical support to production and industrialisation teams.
- Provide inputs for compliance verification within customer contracts.
8. Supplier & Service Provider Management
- Support supplier selection and evaluation processes.
- Resolve supplier-related technical issues and ensure subcontractor compliance.
9. People Management
- Identify skills gaps and define development plans.
- Mentor and coach engineering staff and Product Owners.
- Participate in recruitment for the product line team.
- Conduct regular performance and career discussions with team members.
