About the role

The Senior Process Engineer is the process owner for Hardware and Software Development processes within Engineering, including Industrialisation and Environmental Qualification. The role is accountable for optimising the implementation of Industrialisation as an integral part of the Product Development Process, ensuring products transition effectively from development through to production-ready solutions. The incumbent leads multi-disciplinary teams to execute concurrent engineering objectives and drives continuous improvement across engineering workflows, product lifecycle management, and manufacturing readiness.

 

 

Qualification and experience

  • Minimum BEng (Electronic or Industrial Engineering) or similar qualification.

  • Relevant project management qualification and experience advantageous.

  • Minimum 4–8 years’ experience within a design and manufacturing environment.

  • Proven practical experience in an electronic product development environment, spanning development, industrialisation, and production support phases.

  • Demonstrated leadership capability with the ability to drive change and continuous improvement across engineering processes.

  • Proven track record of taking products through the full product development lifecycle to a production-ready state.

  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams to plan and execute concurrent engineering objectives.


Key technical skills

  • Excellent knowledge and practical application of Product Development and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) processes.

  • Strong process orientation with the ability to define, implement, and continuously improve engineering and industrialisation processes.

  • Very good knowledge of modern production processes and manufacturing procedures.

  • Proven experience in environmental requirements management (e.g., MIL-STD, DO-160, CE where applicable).

  • Experience conducting PFMEA and applying structured, risk-based thinking.

  • Strong understanding of concurrent engineering and formal product review processes.

  • Demonstrated ability to extract and apply full Product Life Cycle requirements to industrialisation and production solutions.

  • Broad exposure to manufacturing, assembly, and quality control techniques.

  • Working knowledge of precision assembly, alignment, and test techniques, including effective knowledge transfer to production teams.

Key responsibilities

1. Industrialisation Management

  • Define, approve, and maintain industrialisation action plans per product.

  • Improve system performance and reliability through focused industrialisation support.

  • Record, track, and close industrialisation actions from product reviews (e.g., War Rooms) within integrated project plans.

  • Build and coordinate technical industrialisation teams to achieve solution-level readiness.

  • Ensure configuration, integration, and testing of standard solutions and sub-systems for field-ready deployment.

  • Maintain a controlled industrialisation action register for products exiting Phase I.

  • Embed industrialisation actions within the Product Development Plan and execute to schedule.

  • Plan and coordinate industrialisation tasks to achieve on-time completion.

  • Influence product design through active participation in design reviews, ensuring manufacturability and producibility.

2. Environmental qualification

  • Define and baseline qualification requirements aligned to applicable standards (e.g., DO-160, MIL-STD, CE).

  • Compile product-specific qualification requirement sets.

  • Drive design-for-compliance through early design influence.

  • Plan, coordinate, and support qualification test campaigns.

  • Provide engineering recommendations based on HALT results and test outcomes.

  • Review and improve in-house environmental test capability.

  • Ensure qualification procedures are compliant and traceable.

  • Act as the central coordination point for environmental qualification compliance.

  • Maintain an Environmental Qualification Status database and provide monthly reporting.

  • Support Product Managers with compliance inputs for RFIs and RFPs.

3. Development Processes

  • Own and govern hardware and software development processes.

  • Enable cross-functional execution between Development, Production, and Configuration Management.

  • Maintain Product Life Cycle status databases and communicate changes.

  • Identify End-of-Life risks and facilitate structured phase-out planning.

  • Support production readiness, including tools, test jigs, and capability definition.

  • Define skills requirements aligned to product complexity.

  • Ensure qualification requirements are implemented during development phases.

4. General

  • Support Engineering Change Processes (ECPs) and Technical Review Boards (TRBs).

  • Monitor approval and implementation of ECPs to protect configuration integrity.

  • Identify and communicate schedule risks and bottlenecks across phases.

  • Confirm production readiness via War Rooms and Pre-Production Readiness Reviews.

  • Support production issue resolution and field evaluations using FRACAS and structured problem-solving methods.
