About the role:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Rework Operator to support the manufacturing process by performing precise rework on Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and Printed Circuit Board (PCB) assemblies. This role involves correcting process faults identified through optical and other inspections, executing PCB modifications during Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), and assisting test technicians during the testing phase by performing necessary rework.
Qualifications and Experience
- Matric with Mathematics or N3 in Electrical/Electronics (or any relevant technical qualification).
- SMT rework qualification to IPC-7711/21 is compulsory.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience on a SMT assembly line.
- Lead-free soldering experience is required.
- Experience in optical inspection will be an added advantage.
Key Technical Skills
- Identification and polarity knowledge of SMT components.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to interpret wiring diagrams and assembly drawings.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Knowledge of Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) safety protocols.
- Ability to read and understand circuit diagrams and electronic layouts.
- Trained in product assembly and quality processes.
- Natural aptitude for hands-on technical work.
Key Responsibilities
Complete Rework Process Execution
- Perform rework based on inspection data and prescribed documentation (ECPs, BOMs, Fracas, etc.).
- Conduct lead-free soldering of SMT and discrete components.
- Ensure baking, pre-heating, alignment, and rework are done as per IPC and ISO standards.
- Accurately complete job cards and associated documentation.
Quality Control, Alignment & Verification
- Ensure high levels of accuracy and workmanship.
- Create and manage Fracas reports for defects not captured by visual inspection.
- Present reworked units for re-inspection and quality control checks.
Visual and Optical Inspection
- Operate inspection equipment, analyse data, and identify required rework.
- Perform cleaning and washing of PCBs following defined procedures.
- Verify serial numbers on completed assemblies and ensure proper documentation.
Company Policies and Safety
- Comply with all company procedures and OHS requirements.
- Execute tasks as directed by line management.
- Provide timely feedback and reporting to the Manager.
