About the role

Reporting to the Head of Quality, the Quality Manager occupies a strategic leadership role responsible for enabling the realisation of Hensoldt GEW’s vision and mission through effective Quality governance. The role manages the overall Quality Management function and specialist resources to ensure compliance, Product Assurance, and the implementation, education, maintenance, and certification of all management systems.

The incumbent is accountable for establishing and sustaining a Business Management System that supports the full value chain, ensures regulatory compliance, and consistently delivers products that meet customer and applicable statutory requirements within a high-complexity defence environment.

 

 

Qualification, experience and training required

  • Minimum BTech Degree, Degree or equivalent (NQF 7).

  • Diploma in Quality Management (e.g. City & Guilds of London Institute or American Society of Quality – ASQ) advantageous.

  • ISO 9001 training (or equivalent).

  • ISO 14001 training (or equivalent).

  • ISO 31000 training (or equivalent).

  • ISO 45001 training (or equivalent).

  • 5–10 years’ experience in the application of quality systems, quality techniques and business process improvement within high-complexity defence system development, production and project environments.

Key technical skills

  • Experience within design, manufacturing, projects and after-sales support environments.

  • Strong knowledge of world-class quality methodologies and best practices.

  • Proven capability in implementing and maintaining EN9100 and/or ISO 9001 compliant systems.

  • Sound understanding of Enterprise Risk Management (ISO 31000) and Business Continuity Management.

  • Experience in Product Assurance, compliance governance, and regulatory affairs.

  • Ability to manage audits, corrective actions, external provider quality and cross-functional quality processes.

Key responsibilities

1. Strategic Quality leadership and governance

  • Contribute to and support the realisation of company vision, strategy and objectives.

  • Develop and maintain Quality Management strategies embedded across the organisation.

  • Provide guidance to Executive and Management Committees on Quality responsibilities and flow-down requirements.

  • Build strategic relationships with customers, external providers and key stakeholders.

  • Ensure Quality strategies are driven from Executive level and embedded across business units.

2. Quality and Business Management Systems (EN9100, ISO 9001, ISO 31000 & Compliance)

  • Implement, maintain and certify Quality Management Systems in line with EN9100 and/or ISO 9001.

  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive Business Management System aligned to corporate and international standards.

  • Ensure Enterprise Risk Management (ISO 31000) and BCM frameworks are implemented and maintained.

  • Oversee compliance management, regulatory affairs, and risk mitigation plans.

  • Coordinate annual Management Reviews and ensure corrective and improvement actions are implemented.

3. Product quality, external provider quality and audit management

  • Develop and maintain strategies, procedures and plans for Product Assurance and Quality Projects.

  • Monitor and support quality performance at external providers in cooperation with Procurement.

  • Ensure execution of approved audit schedules and resolution of audit findings.

  • Oversee quality coordination and control activities across internal and external stakeholders.

  • Support business processes from bid stage through to customer support.

4. Quality projects and continuous improvement

  • Develop and maintain Quality Projects strategies and implementation plans.

  • Ensure planned Quality activities are executed according to agreed standards and management plans.

  • Identify and initiate corrective and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Drive quality awareness and company-wide training programmes.

5. Leadership and People Management

  • Lead, plan, budget, organise and control Product Quality, Compliance and Quality Projects functions.

  • Recruit, coach, motivate and develop team members to meet delivery, quality, cost and customer service targets.

  • Conduct performance evaluations, succession planning and talent management in collaboration with HR.

  • Manage employee relations, grievances and workforce planning to ensure operational continuity.
