About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled and driven Project Manager to lead complex defence-related projects. This role is responsible for overseeing the successful execution of projects from initiation to closure, ensuring alignment with budget, scope, technical objectives, and customer expectations. The Project Manager will coordinate cross-functional teams, manage stakeholder relationships, monitor performance, and ensure projects are delivered with excellence, within defined timelines.
Qualifications and experience
- Minimum Technical qualification; Preferred Undergraduate degree in Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
- PMP certification (Project Management Institute) highly preferred.
- 3-5 years of project management experience, ideally in the Defence industry, with exposure to Electronic Warfare environments.
- Proven ability to manage operational performance, non-co-located teams, stakeholder expectations, and project team leadership.
- Experience using project execution and control tools such as Qmuzik or SAP is advantageous.
Key technical skills

Project planning and project control techniques and tools.

Stakeholder management (internal and external) with strong communication, influencing, and negotiation skills.

Clear understanding of the project lifecycle and control of project outputs.

Coordination of technical work and allocation of resources according to project needs.

Scope and change management within complex project environments.

Strong understanding of project finance principles for effective budget and cost control.

Ability to lead and motivate diverse teams (engineers, operators, technicians, and support staff).

Knowledge of project management methodologies such as PRINCE II, PMP, and Agile.

Understanding of complex systems within a design and development environment.
-
Application of Systems Engineering principles to project execution.
Key responsibilities:
1. Contractual Programme / Project Execution
-
Create and maintain a Project Management structure and team.
-
Coordinate the project kick-off with relevant stakeholders.
-
Ensure effective scope management during project execution without negatively impacting schedule, technical, or cost objectives unless formally agreed.

Use project execution, control, and monitoring tools (e.g., Qmuzik/SAP) and PMO-defined KPIs as measures of performance.
-
Deliver contracted project milestones to the end user as a total solution.

Ensure requirements are formally agreed and documented for traceability during and after project execution within technical, schedule, and budget constraints.

Participate in major contract scope change negotiations and/or requirements changes when required.
2. Planning and Technical

Plan projects to achieve the Business Case, including:

Resource planning

Budgeting
-
Scheduling
-
Creating and maintaining risk and issue logs
-

Allocate Project Management resources to the execution of work.

Monitor Project Management output and workload.
-
Create, maintain, and monitor monthly delivery and expenditure forecasts.

Manage procurement of parts according to project scope.
-
Ensure and review regular project scope outputs by the project team and align execution plans accordingly.

Work with technical teams, engineers, and external suppliers to ensure the proposed technical solution meets customer expectations in terms of functionality, maintainability, usability, and producibility.

Collaborate with systems engineers to ensure proper gate reviews take place to support decision-making and technical integrity.

Ensure projects are properly executed and closed in line with the project management process.

Conduct gate project meetings to ensure delivery according to agreed standards.

Manage mitigation of risks and issues within the project.
3. Reporting

Serve as a bridge between external customers and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment of goals and milestones.

Regularly communicate with external customers and project teams to provide status updates and ensure alignment of activities with programme goals.

Report externally to the client on project execution status (technical and schedule).

Report internally on execution status in terms of financial, technical, schedule, and risk status to Programme Managers.
4. Project Closure

Conduct gate reviews for production readiness.

Conduct reviews on costs, budget, and the technical solution of the project.
-
Identify gaps and define future or follow-up actions.

Create a project closure report with recommendations.
5. General
-
Uphold Company Values and the PMO Code of Conduct by adhering to company policies and disciplinary codes.

Represent the Client internally and ensure the “Voice of the Customer” is heard.

Ensure company policies and procedures relating to Project Management are followed as practically reasonable.

Execute any reasonable ad hoc duties assigned by Executive Management within the scope of the role.

Suggest areas for improvement in internal processes and propose solutions.

Cooperate and add value within the PMO Business Unit wherever possible.
