About the role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Project Manager to support the successful delivery of projects within a complex engineering and defence environment. Reporting to a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager, you will contribute to the planning, execution, monitoring, and closure of projects while developing a strong foundation in project management principles and practices.

This role offers exposure to the full project lifecycle and provides an opportunity to work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, customers, suppliers, and stakeholders. The successful candidate will develop the skills required to manage project scope, schedule, cost, risk, and stakeholder expectations while ensuring project objectives are achieved.

Qualification & experience

  • Undergraduate Engineering qualification or equivalent technical qualification.
  • PMP certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) will be advantageous.
  • Exposure to a defence environment, preferably within the Electronic Warfare domain, is desirable.
  • 0–2 years' project management experience or experience supporting project delivery within a technical environment.
  • Exposure to project planning, stakeholder engagement, reporting, or coordination activities will be advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills.

 

Key technical skills

  • Project planning principles, methodologies, and project control tools.
  • Stakeholder management and effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Understanding of project lifecycle management and project governance processes.
  • Resource planning and coordination within project environments.
  • Scope and change management principles.
  • Basic project financial management, budgeting, and cost control concepts.
  • Team coordination and collaboration within multidisciplinary environments.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies such as PMBOK, PRINCE2, Agile, or similar frameworks.
  • Understanding of systems engineering principles and their application within project execution.
  • Ability to interpret technical information and work effectively with engineering teams.
  • Risk identification, mitigation, and issue management principles.
  • Competency in project reporting, monitoring, and performance tracking.

 

Key responsibilities:

1. Contractual Programme / Project Execution

  • Establish project governance structures and stakeholder alignment to support effective project execution and ensure delivery against contractual commitments.
  • Manage project scope, requirements, and change requests throughout the project lifecycle to maintain alignment with approved objectives and minimise delivery risk.
  • Monitor project performance against schedule, cost, quality, and technical baselines to ensure timely achievement of project milestones.
  • Coordinate project activities across stakeholders and workstreams to enable integrated delivery of customer requirements and project outcomes.
  • Maintain project controls, documentation, and traceability throughout execution to support compliance, transparency, and informed decision-making.
  • Support stakeholder engagement and communication activities to ensure expectations remain aligned and project objectives are achieved.

2. Planning & Technical Coordination

  • Develop project plans, schedules, and resource requirements to support successful execution and achievement of business objectives.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, and technical resources to ensure work is prioritised, aligned, and delivered according to project needs.
  • Forecast project expenditure, resource utilisation, and delivery performance to provide accurate visibility of project status and future requirements.
  • Facilitate collaboration between project, systems, and engineering teams to ensure technical solutions meet customer, operational, and business requirements.
  • Identify project risks, issues, and dependencies throughout execution to enable proactive mitigation and minimise impact on delivery objectives.
  • Support project reviews, governance activities, and decision-making processes to ensure project readiness and adherence to organisational standards.
  • Align technical and project execution activities with customer expectations and programme objectives to achieve successful project outcomes.

3. Stakeholder Management & Reporting

  • Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote collaboration and support project success.
  • Communicate project progress, risks, issues, and performance information to stakeholders to enable informed decision-making and timely intervention where required.
  • Provide accurate and timely project reporting across financial, schedule, technical, and risk dimensions to maintain stakeholder confidence and governance compliance.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement and alignment activities to ensure project priorities, expectations, and commitments remain understood and supported.
  • Represent the project in customer and internal forums to maintain transparency and strengthen confidence in project delivery.

4. Project Closure & Continuous Improvement

  • Conduct formal project closure activities to verify achievement of project objectives and ensure compliance with governance requirements.
  • Evaluate project performance against agreed scope, schedule, cost, and quality targets to identify successes, challenges, and improvement opportunities.
  • Capture lessons learned and best practices throughout project execution to enhance organisational knowledge and future project performance.
  • Maintain complete and accurate project records to support auditability, knowledge retention, and future reference.
  • Recommend process improvements and corrective actions based on project outcomes to strengthen project management capability and delivery effectiveness.
