About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and detail-driven Junior Development Technician to join our product development team. In this role, you will support Product Owners, Product Managers and Engineers in the development, assembly, testing, and verification of high-performance hardware products.
This is an excellent opportunity for a young technician to gain hands-on experience across the full product lifecycle, from assembly and prototyping, through testing and validation, to infrastructure setup and field trial support. You’ll work in a collaborative engineering environment where learning, accuracy, and technical curiosity are essential.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
- T3 / N6 / S4 Diploma in Electronic Engineering (B-Tech advantageous).
- 1 –2 years experience in a product development or engineering environment.
- Experience with:
- RF concepts and RF measurements (advantageous).
- Analogue and digital electronics.
- Electronic test equipment.
- IPC certification is an added advantage
This role is well suited for junior technicians eager to grow their engineering capability within a structured development environment.
Key Technical Skills Required
- Basic understanding of RF concepts, electromagnetics, and ITU environments.
- Ability to write technical documentation (ATPs, result records, technical reports), with final approval by a Product Owner.
- Solid working knowledge of computers, hardware, operating systems, and networking (Linux, Windows, Windows Server).
- Ability to interpret technical diagrams, engineering drawings, and assembly instructions.
- Hands-on capability in electronics assembly, fault-finding, and system support.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Product Assembly
- Interpret circuit diagrams and assembly drawings.
- Batch and kit components for assembly.
- Perform high-quality assembly of RF sub-assemblies, PCBs, mechanical components, and cables.
- Support higher-level system integration and product evaluation.
- Install and configure product software per documented procedures.
2. Product Verification & Testing
- Verify products against draft specifications and ATPs.
- Record test results, perform updates or modifications as instructed by engineers.
- Conduct validation testing using product test documentation.
- Maintain requirements/bug/feature logs and assist the software team with fault records.
- Prepare products for field trials, factory acceptance tests, and demos.
3. Technical Documentation
- Assist in compiling ATPs, result records, technical reports.
- Review assembly documentation and provide improvement input.
- Support engineers with product training and documentation updates.
4. Infrastructure Setup
- Set up routers, networks (TCP/IP) and support general IT infrastructure needs.
- Install, configure, and maintain PC infrastructure (Linux, Windows, Windows Server).
- Assist in preparing product environments for demonstrations and testing.
5. General Laboratory & Support Activities
- Maintain lab component stock levels and monitor consumables.
- Manage lab storage and maintain a clean, organised work area using 5S principles.
- Support shipping, product preparation, training activities, and other ad-hoc tasks assigned by the Line Manager or Systems Engineer.
