About the Role

The Cable Assembly Operator assembles, integrates, inspects and performs basic functional testing of cable assemblies, electronic assemblies, mechanical sub-assemblies and units in accordance with approved manufacturing documentation and quality standards. The role delivers safe, accurate and reliable products that meet defined production, workmanship and technical requirements.

Qualification and experience:

• Minimum Grade 12 / Matric with Mathematics, N3 in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or a similar qualification.
• IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience within an electronics-related production or manufacturing environment.
• Experience within the military or telecommunications industry will be advantageous.
• Experience interpreting wiring diagrams, assembly diagrams and manufacturing drawings.
• Practical experience in lead-free soldering.
• Knowledge of Surface-Mount Technology component identification and polarity.

Key responsibilities:

Cable and Product Assembly

Prepare and assemble RF, data, fibre-optic and power cables, wire harnesses, PCB assemblies, mechanical sub-assemblies and units using approved tools, jigs and manufacturing documentation to achieve correct fitment, connection and alignment, resulting in products that meet specified production and technical requirements.

Manufacturing Process Execution and Documentation

Execute prescribed manufacturing activities, including lead-free soldering, cable preparation, masking, baking, pre-heating, conformal coating and curing, while completing job cards and Build History Documentation to control and record production activities, resulting in consistent and traceable manufacturing outcomes.

Quality Inspection, Testing and Verification

Inspect incoming kits and completed assemblies, perform applicable alignment and basic functional testing, and present completed work for Quality Control inspection against prescribed IPC and workmanship requirements to identify defects before acceptance, resulting in compliant products that meet defined manufacturing standards.

Equipment Maintenance, Rework and Production Support

Perform repair, rework, corrective-action and scheduled equipment-maintenance activities while applying occupational health and safety, ISO and company requirements to maintain safe and reliable production capability, resulting in reduced defects, material waste and manufacturing interruptions.
