About the Role

The Operator assembles, integrates, aligns and performs basic functional testing of opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical sub-systems and non-specialised final systems. The role follows approved manufacturing instructions and quality requirements to deliver compliant products within agreed production schedules and cost parameters.

 

 

Qualification and experience:

  • Minimum Grade 12 / Matric.
  • Relevant informal or workplace-based technical training.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a hands-on manufacturing or assembly environment.
  • Experience in opto-mechanical, electro-mechanical or precision product assembly will be advantageous.
  • Exposure to optics handling, ESD-controlled environments, alignment or functional testing will be advantageous.

Key responsibilities:

Kit and Component Preparation

Receive, inspect, clean and prepare production kits and components against work-order requirements to identify and resolve material discrepancies, resulting in complete and production-ready kits for controlled assembly.

 

Product Assembly and Integration

Assemble and integrate opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical components, sub-systems and systems according to approved drawings and manufacturing instructions to achieve the required workmanship standard, resulting in correctly built and traceable products.

 

Alignment and Functional Testing

Perform first-level alignment, calibration and basic functional testing against approved requirements and test procedures to verify product performance, resulting in assemblies that are ready for quality inspection and acceptance.

 

Quality and Production Documentation

Complete work orders, build history documents and required production records throughout assembly and testing activities to maintain manufacturing traceability and demonstrate process compliance, resulting in accurate product records and controlled production handover.

 

Product Handling and Production Compliance

Apply prescribed ESD, optics-handling, cleaning, packing and manufacturing procedures throughout production activities to protect components and completed products, resulting in safe, compliant and quality-controlled production outcomes.
