About the role

The Goods Receiving Clerk is responsible for receiving, unpacking, verifying, and accurately recording incoming goods, and ensuring they are routed to the correct internal areas. The role is critical to stock accuracy, financial control, and production continuity, requiring high attention to detail, disciplined system usage (SAP), and strong coordination with stores, inspection, and finance.

 

Qualifications and experience

  • Grade 12 with formal training an advantage.

  • Proven experience as a Receiving Clerk or in a similar stores/warehouse role.

  • Experience working with delivery notes, purchase orders, and ERP systems (SAP advantageous).

Key technical skills

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Physically able to handle and move heavy boxes.

  • Good communication skills and ability to coordinate with multiple departments.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritise in a busy receiving environment.

  • Proficient in basic productivity software (MS Excel, Word, Email) and ERP systems.

 

Key responsibilities

  1. Goods receipt and verification

    • Receive, unpack, inspect, accept or reject goods against purchase orders and delivery notes.

    • Verify quantity, quality, and documentation accuracy.

  1. System and documentation control

    • Capture delivery notes accurately in SAP, matching correct purchase orders and complying with company procedures.

    • Scan, link, and file all relevant goods receipt documentation.

  2. Stock movement and routing

    • Allocate and route goods to the correct areas (e.g. incoming inspection, stores, production).

    • Ensure all stock movements are accurately recorded and traceable.

  3. Stakeholder communication and coordination

    • Communicate with suppliers, procurement, quality, and internal departments regarding receipts, returns, and rejections.

    • Submit complete and accurate documentation to Accounts Payable.

  4. Accuracy, compliance and continuous improvement

    • Maintain high standards of accuracy, compliance, and housekeeping.

    • Identify and support continuous improvement initiatives in the receiving process.
