About the role
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Electronic Engineering Lead to manage and develop the Electronic Engineering discipline in alignment with product market requirements and the company’s long-term business objectives.
The successful candidate will be responsible for driving engineering excellence across product design, development, systems engineering, and technology advancement. This role requires a strong leader who can establish engineering best practices, develop high-performing teams, improve processes, and ensure the delivery of innovative, high-quality electronic products.
The Electronic Engineering Lead will play a key role in shaping future technologies, improving product development efficiency, and ensuring the organisation remains competitive within the engineering and technology landscape.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum BEng in Electronic Engineering
- Management training or equivalent qualification would be advantageous
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience, preferably 7 years, as a Product Development Engineer within a Systems Engineering environment
- At least 5 years’ experience in the application of:
- Project Management
- System Acquisition
- Configuration Management
- Risk Management
- Engineering design and development
- Previous experience managing an engineering discipline or technical team would be advantageous
Key Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of electronic design principles, production methods, techniques, procedures, and equipment
- Experience in the technical management of electronic product design and related engineering support functions such as:
- Integrated Logistic Support
- Product Data Management
- Reliability and Availability Engineering
- Drawing office management
- Knowledge of strategic planning, business modelling, leadership, resource allocation, and people management
- Strong understanding of Electronic Engineering and Technology within multidisciplinary product development and manufacturing environments
- Knowledge of firmware and electronics development lifecycles
- Understanding of hardware safety certification processes, including RTCA/DO-254
- Strong grounding in mathematics, physical sciences, engineering technologies, and design principles
- Good understanding of systems engineering processes and review gates
- Knowledge of business and operational management principles
Key responsibilities
1. Process ownership and Engineering excellence
- Position the Electronic Engineering discipline to remain aligned with industry trends, core technologies, product platforms, and engineering best practices
- Standardise engineering design tools, hardware platforms, and software across the business
- Establish, implement, and maintain engineering policies, standards, procedures, and governance frameworks
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and lean product development processes to improve efficiency and reduce waste
- Define and monitor engineering metrics to measure design effectiveness, product quality, and development performance
- Identify, budget for, and implement new technologies that improve design integrity, development turnaround times, and overall engineering capability
- Ensure alignment between design processes, project management requirements, and product industrialisation activities
2. Capability establishment and resource planning
- Build and maintain the required engineering capability, including technical skills, competencies, infrastructure, systems, and documentation
- Ensure adequate resource capacity to support current and future product development demands
- Develop and implement strategies to address changing workload demands through internal and external resources
- Manage engineering resources to deliver agreed technology, product development, and business objectives
- Implement mentorship and technical development programmes to strengthen internal capability and succession planning
3. People leadership and team development
- Lead talent management and succession planning initiatives in partnership with HR
- Manage employee performance through coaching, mentoring, regular feedback, and formal performance reviews
- Motivate and guide teams to achieve targets related to quality, delivery, cost, and customer service
- Plan, organise, and allocate resources effectively to achieve engineering and product goals within scope, budget, and timelines
- Provide on-the-job training, technical coaching, and support for new employees on company tools, systems, and procedures
- Manage employee relations matters, including leave, disciplinary issues, interviews, inductions, promotions, and performance-related matters
- Maintain accurate employee records and ensure compliance with company processes and HR requirements
- Manage engineering and technology development assets to ensure alignment with operational and future technology needs
