About the role

The Bid Manager is responsible for owning and driving the end-to-end bid process from opportunity handover through to submission and handover to delivery. The role ensures that bids are compliant, competitive, accurate, and approved, while protecting the business from unmanaged risk, scope gaps, and unapproved commitments.

This role coordinates inputs from Sales, Engineering, Operations, Finance, Legal, Procurement, and external partners, and ensures alignment between technical solutions, costing, and commercial assumptions. The Bid Manager does not sell, negotiate, or design but controls the process, quality, and governance of the bid.

 

 

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Project Management, or related discipline.

  • 3–8 years’ experience in bid management, project coordination, technical sales, or a similar role.

  • Proven experience working in cross-functional or matrix environments.

  • Familiarity with commercial contracts and proposal processes.

  • Industry experience relevant to complex technical or engineered products/services.

  • Strong bid and proposal management capability.

  • Excellent planning, organisation, and schedule control skills.

  • High attention to detail and quality orientation.

  • Strong risk awareness and governance mindset.

  • Ability to align technical scope, costing, and commercial assumptions.

  • Confident stakeholder coordination and facilitation across technical and commercial teams.

  • Clear, structured communication at multiple organisational levels.

 

Key responsibilities

  1. End-to-end bid management and governance

    • Plan, manage, and control the full bid lifecycle from handover to submission.

    • Establish bid plans, schedules, responsibilities, and review gates.

    • Ensure compliance with customer requirements and internal governance processes.

  2. Scope, requirements and compliance control

    • Lead clarification and breakdown of customer requirements.

    • Maintain a clear requirements compliance matrix.

    • Ensure scope, assumptions, exclusions, and dependencies are clearly defined and approved.

  3. Costing, commercial alignment and Risk Management

    • Coordinate with Cost Estimators to ensure cost inputs are complete, traceable, and aligned to scope.

    • Ensure pricing assumptions, risks, and contingencies are documented and reviewed.

    • Identify, manage, and escalate technical, commercial, and delivery risks during the bid phase.

  4. Stakeholder and partner coordination

    • Act as the primary coordination point between Sales, Engineering, and support functions.

    • Integrate Engineering and specialist inputs without transferring ownership of the bid.

    • Manage contributions from partners, subcontractors, and external consultants.

  5. Submission, handover and continuous improvement

    • Manage bid documentation and submission requirements.

    • Support post-submission clarifications and prepare structured handovers to delivery teams.

    • Capture and apply lessons learned from wins and losses to improve future bids
