JOB SPECIFICATION

 

Position:               Wiring Technician          

Business unit:     UK Radar & Naval Solutions

Reporting to:       Production Manager

Location:              Enfield, United Kingdom

Job Scope

The Cable Wire Harness Manufacturer is responsible for the assembly, installation, and maintenance of cable and wire harnesses used in various electrical systems. The ideal candidate will have experience in wire harness manufacturing, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.

Job Functions

Assembly and Fabrication

  • Assemble wire harnesses, cable assemblies, and connectors according to engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Perform cutting, stripping, crimping, soldering, and splicing of wires and cables.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment to ensure quality and compliance with specifications.

 

Quality Control

  • Inspect and test assembled products for continuity, functionality, and adherence to specifications.
  • Identify and report any defects, deviations, or non-conformities in the manufacturing process.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, and production activities.

 

Documentation and Reporting

 

    • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders.
    • Maintain detailed and accurate production logs, including material usage and time tracking.
    • Communicate with engineers and supervisors to resolve any production issues or discrepancies.

 

Testing and Quality Control

  • Perform continuity tests and insulation resistance tests.
  • Identify and repair defects or malfunctions in wire harnesses.
  • Ensure all assemblies meet industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of tests and inspections.

 

Maintenance and Repair

  • Troubleshoot and repair faulty wire harnesses.
  • Replace damaged wires and connectors as needed.
  • Perform regular maintenance on tools and equipment.

 

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting wiring diagrams and technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with electrical testing equipment such as multimeters and continuity testers.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as IPC/WHMA-A-620.

 

Soft Skills

 

  • Excellent attention to detail and manual dexterity.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.

 

Requirements

  • Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality-oriented mindset.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and documentation.
  • Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

 

Experience Required

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in wire harness assembly or a related field.
  • Proven experience in the use of various types of connectors, terminals, and wiring techniques.

 

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent. Technical certification in electrical or mechanical assembly preferred.
  • Experience with IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and practices.

 

Physical Attributes

  • Ability to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods.
  • Good visual acuity for detailed work.
