Job Scope
This role will (together with the Head of Legal UK) be responsible for ensuring the compliance of HENSOLDT UK, with all applicable legal and regulatory compliance requirements including but not limited to Data Protection and Anti-Bribery.
The role will encompass a broad range of interactions, with both internal and external stakeholders, and will include the provision of guidance, assistance, and technical (i.e., legal, regulatory, and contractual) inputs, to all aspects of the operations of the HENSOLDT UK Group, across all locations.
They will be responsible for implementing, reviewing, and monitoring the effectiveness of all internal compliance policies in order to meet HENSOLDT UK, legal and regulatory requirements and where required ensuring that documentation to demonstrate compliance is kept up to date.
This role comprehends a holistic approach to risk (identification, management, and mitigation) whether it is regulatory, legal, commercial, jurisdictional, financial, and reputational. This translates into assessing third parties and transactions the business seeks to engage, supporting the achievement of the bid’s financial/strategic objectives, ensuring compliance with ethical and contractual undertakings, and protecting the commercial integrity of commitments being made on behalf of the company.
As a risk-specialist, the post-holder works in close cooperation with HENSOLDT Group Central Compliance implementing and ensuring the effectiveness of the compliance management system at HENSOLDT UK,
The Compliance Officer will be responsible for providing strong working compliance knowledge and support, acumen, and advisory service across all departments within the business, in particular to the Sales, Programme, Service Support and Procurement functions.
The Compliance Officer role requires continuous learning. The job holder shall personally manage their self-learning and training through various webinars available through HENSOLDT UK, association with numerous associations and legal firm.
The post holder will provide practical assistance to the Head of Legal with respect to the Job Functions
Job Functions
- Ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements across all business activities including (but not limited to) Data Protection and Anti-Bribery laws
- Ensuring adherence to corporate ethics and compliance policies and procedures across all business activities
- Advising and guiding all employees on all compliance-related issues
- Being the subject matter expert on internal compliance policies and procedures.
- Monitoring and advising the business on new and updated legal and regulatory requirements relating to compliance
- Legal assessment of compliance-relevant contract matters in the UK and abroad
- Contribute to and where needed take the lead on the creation of Compliance policies and processes to ensure lawful business operations including development and monitoring of preventive measures and processes to ensure the company's compliance policies are effective and fit for purpose.
- Conducting due diligence checks on all qualifying third parties to determine if compliance clearance should be recommended based on internal policies, raising enquiries, liaising with internal and external stakeholders in support of Due Diligence.
- Conducting risk assessments on transactions that the business seeks to engage with and compiling a thorough file for senior management sign-off and supporting the business with all compliance management expertise during the lifecycle of a contract and programme
- Completing Data Protection Impact Assessments for all new data processing activities and ensure the record of processing activities is kept up to date.
- Review and advise on privacy notices and ad hoc data protection queries
- Deal with responding to subject access requests and queries from data subjects on the use of their personal data
- Supporting the Head of Legal and Central Compliance with the roll-out of regular compliance training across the business.
- Engaging all stakeholders to establish a culture of compliance throughout the Group.
- Supporting the business in the completion of customer due-diligence questionnaires
- Compiling Compliance Reports as and when required.
- Review and investigate potential instances of non-compliance and/or data breaches (with assistance from IT and Head of Legal) and gather information for review.
- Carrying out internal and external audit as required
Requirements
- Highest degree of integrity
- Significant demonstrable experience in the majority of the key areas, ideally gained within the Defence industry or within a similar international and interdisciplinary environment.
- Investigative and analytical mindset: strong ability in identifying and selecting sources, gathering data, input, and information, and interpreting them.
- Strong communicator, both in writing and verbal – able to assess and adjust presentation and content to target audiences including support to senior management and/or customer facing discussions when required.
- Independent-minded, structured, and organised whilst being flexible and adaptable as the requirement arises, effectively contributing to a team, willing and able to draw attention to unaddressed or unresolved issues and significant residual risks.
- Pragmatic and commercially alert – effective at identifying and assessing risk, mitigations, and risk management.
- Experienced in the use of the Microsoft Office suite.
- Creative problem solver who is detail oriented
- Ability to integrate and balance priorities, work activities and resources for the benefit of multiple key stakeholders
Experience Required
Previous experience of working in a broad compliance role
UK Bribery Act 2010:
Contributing to the generation, maintenance & delivery of internal training and refresher programmes.
GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018:
Ascertaining whether data is of a sensitive nature, managing registrations and demonstrating compliance.
Good knowledge and understanding of the dynamics connected to corruption, money laundering and terrorism financing
Some experience of ensuring compliance with EU and UK sanctions regime would be beneficial
Qualifications
- Degree Level or equivalent.
- Formal legal training or compliance related qualifications (such as GDPR Practitioner) would be an advantage.
