About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Draughtsman to join our dynamic engineering team. This role is essential in producing accurate, high-quality CAD designs and technical documentation to support the design, manufacturing, and assembly of mechanical components, assemblies, and wiring looms.
You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure that all designs comply with engineering standards, manufacturing capabilities, and quality requirements, while also maintaining complete and accurate data packs throughout the product lifecycle.

Qualifications and experience
- Minimum N6 Mechanical Diploma (or equivalent).
- Professional drafting certification or credentials.
- Minimum 5 years' design experience working with mechanical components, assemblies, or sub-systems.
- Electrical design experience is a strong advantage.
- Proven experience using professional CAD software such as SolidWorks, Solid Edge, or CREO.
Key technical skills
- Proficient in 3D modelling and design within CAD environments.
- Strong knowledge of geometrical tolerances and ISO Standards.
- Good understanding of engineering processes and review gates across the product lifecycle.
- Familiarity with a broad range of manufacturing techniques and their practical applications.
- Ability to interpret and generate comprehensive Bill of Materials (BoMs) and technical documentation.
- Skilled in SolidWorks, Solid Edge, CREO, or equivalent CAD platforms.
- Ability to guide and mentor junior team members and collaborate across departments.
Key responsibilities
1. Design mechanical 3D models of assemblies and parts
- Create detailed and technically accurate CAD designs.
- Ensure the integrity and compliance of all technical drawings.
- Develop and maintain a library of reusable components.
2. Compile documentation for parts and assemblies
- Prepare and refine technical sketches with engineering teams.
- Perform material and weight calculations to meet project specifications.
- Compile and submit accurate data packs for configuration control.
- Describe production methods and ensure designs meet regulatory and quality standards.
- Create and maintain BoMs for procurement and production purposes.
3. Provide technical guidance to internal and external clients
- Respond to technical queries regarding part manufacturing and assembly.
- Supply parasolids and CAD files as required.
- Troubleshoot and resolve design-related production issues.
4. General responsibilities
- Adhere to internal policies, procedures, and documentation practices.
- Participate in formal design reviews and ensure findings are implemented.
- Mentor junior staff and support their technical growth.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and process optimisations.
- Prepare project scopes and quotations as needed.
